Gangtok Bagdogra Helicopter Services

Gangtok Bagdogra Helicopter Services

Helicopter services between Gangtok and Bagdogra provide a crucial aerial link connecting Sikkim’s capital with North Bengal’s main aviation hub. Operated primarily to reduce long and difficult road journeys through hilly terrain, the helicopter service offers a time-efficient and weather-resilient alternative to road travel.

Gangtok–Bagdogra Helicopter Flights: A Faster Link Between Sikkim and North Bengal

The flight covers the distance between Gangtok and Bagdogra in approximately 30 to 35 minutes, compared to a 4–5 hour road journey that is often affected by landslides, traffic congestion and adverse weather conditions. The service is widely used by tourists, business travellers, government officials and emergency medical cases.

Operations and Booking

Helicopter flights are operated from Burtuk Helipad in Gangtok and connect directly to Bagdogra Airport. Tickets can be booked online through authorised portals or counters, with fares varying based on seat availability and demand. The service operates under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and is subject to weather conditions.

Boost to Tourism and Connectivity

The Gangtok–Bagdogra helicopter service plays a vital role in improving connectivity to Sikkim, especially during peak tourist seasons. It also supports medical evacuations and emergency response, making it an essential part of the region’s transport infrastructure.

Despite occasional disruptions due to weather, the helicopter service continues to be viewed as a reliable and time-saving option for travellers seeking quicker access between Sikkim and mainland India.
